Fragment/s/ed
Hello, it's September. I will miss Wendell Berry (poems at The Poetry Foundation).

Love me a leaf that's turning
It's not autumn yet, but we can see it from here.
In the past six weeks, I have actually landed the plane on one of the projects that made me feel stupid (in four different ways). Luckily, it's a project I have never regretted, not once since I thought of it and dawdled over implementing it and eventually got in gear to get 'er done because of Events.

Could I draw this? Maybe?
I love when my family visits up here. It makes the other eleven months of the year, the worrying about water and trees and paths and taxes and hydro lines and invaders (ant and mice), worth it. I wish this year my niece and her friends hadn't coincided with the smoky weather and I'm very grateful for their resilience and good humour. I'm proud that this year my sister and I had art sessions several times, some in town and some just out here, at camp. One day in my journal I noted I'd drawn two days in a row--heaven!

Sailboat races! On a sunny Saturday!
This year, I learned that yes indeed I do need to just unplug the pump when it loses its prime. That the spray gun on the end of the hoses isn't enough for the water pressure. That for some weird reason, it was impossible to find chicken thighs (boneless or bone-in), but I could punt supper plans and grill a hunk of salmon.
I read some--not enough, and fragmentedly; same with writing. I have hosted one author event at Entershine Bookshop and will host another in a few weeks.
And once again, September is coming in with the "back to school" energy, and I am returning to (some of) my previous schedules, routines, and habits. With joy. Somewhat refreshed. Still grateful to have been alive in a world at the same time as Wendell Berry, Dolly Parton, and Tim Curry, as well as those closer to home.
I may feel as if I contain fragments these days--but perhaps that's just another way of containing multitudes. (I am large, I contain multitudes.)
Cheers to the done and not-done, to the missing out and choosing yes, to the dreaming and noodling and idling and learning. Cheers to September.
