What an August; Hello, September!
August held lots of weather. Hot and humid days worthy of June in Oklahoma, cool rainy days hearkening back to April (perhaps? March?) in Oklahoma, and a share of those cool night/bright and sunny days that are so typical of Augusts of my memory.
And now it's September, with its "back to school" or even "the other new year" vibe. Certainly my holiday is over--my sister has gone back home to her regular life, the weather is changing further, events are beginning again in town.
AND! Some of those events on the horizon include me!
First, on September 17, I'll be doing a joint signing with David Giuliano at Thunder Bay's Indigo location from 11 to 1. We'll share short readings, discuss our books, and sign whatever you like!
David is a fellow Latitude 46 Publishing author. His award-winning novel, THE UNDERTAKING OF BILLY BUFFONE, is set in Marathon and is a satisfying, layered who- and why-dunnit. A former Moderator of the United Church of Canada, he's also written four other books, two for children. More about David is here.
AND! On September 23, I'm hosting an event for Rod Carley and his new book RUFF. It's about a dude named William Shakespeare who's having a midlife crisis, which sets off a series of hilarious hijinks that touch on issues relevant today, including censorship, equality, and justice. The event, at the Thunder Bay Public Library's Waverley Resource Branch, begins at 6 PM and promises to be a lot of fun. More about Rod is here.
Not to bury the lede on my own September experience so far, but I did experience one of the GREAT JOYS of being an author recently: I saw someone I didn't even know, out in the world, carrying my novel. It had bookmarks, too. She'd been reading it! No, I didn't introduce myself, and I didn't allow my friends to chase her down. It was enough to know that other people are reading and getting to know Simone, Martin, and Chen.
As if that weren't enough, another event is on tap for October, too! Until that's ready to announce, I'll be doing some of my usual here: noodling about Stuff and Things. You know. Life.
Happiest of Septembers, folks.
